It goes on well, much easier to use than stain. But the matte finish doesn't work for what I do. It just doesn't look like a final finish. It's dull with absolutely no sheen. The universal maintenance coat brings it to a very light sheen, which was just enough to pass muster. Over-all I was expecting a nicer one coat finish, but maybe that's just to good to be true. I would recommend this product with the caveat that it is 4x's the cost of stain and poly, but you do save time using it.
It is a great product, I got a natural finish on my furniture projects.
We updated our kitchen, and replaced our granite countertop around our sink with 2" thick walnut. First, it was treated with Rubio Monocoat, and looked good, but after applying the Universal Maintenance oil, it looked stunning. The soft sheen really highlights the color variations and grain of the wood.
